Which platform should I publish my webtoon on?
Publish a vertical-scroll webtoon on WEBTOON Canvas for the largest audience, and add GlobalComix, NamiComi or Lemoon if you want to earn from the first chapters. All four have a reader built for scrolling on a phone. ComicFury and a self-hosted site are the free options that you control, without an app.
| Platform | Vertical reader | Mobile apps | How creators earn | Languages |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WEBTOON Canvas | Built for vertical scroll | iOS and Android | Ads and Super Likes, after thresholds | 7: EN, ES, FR, ID, TH, zh-TW, DE |
| GlobalComix | Vertical reader plus page mode | iOS and Android | Share of a reader subscription, paywalled chapters, donations | Many |
| NamiComi | Vertical and horizontal comics | Android; iOS as a TestFlight beta | 85% of coin-unlocked chapters | Any |
| Lemoon | Webtoon app | iOS | 70% once a series has 5 episodes | EN, ES, FR site |

WEBTOON had 156.9 million monthly users across its services in the second quarter of 2026, by far the largest audience for vertical comics (Anime News Network, 31 August 2026). GlobalComix reports 2.8 million unique visitors (publish page, accessed 16 October 2026). WEBTOON publishes no figure for Canvas alone.
Tapas, which also had a vertical reader, closes on 31 March 2027 (Tapas FAQ, 1 October 2026).
What size should webtoon images be?
Export webtoon episodes at 800 pixels wide in slices of up to 1,280 pixels long, as JPG or PNG, which fits WEBTOON Canvas exactly and works on the other platforms. Canvas resizes wider images and slices longer ones automatically, which re-compresses the art.
| Platform | Image width | Height per image | File types | Size limits | Cover or thumbnail |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WEBTOON Canvas | Under 800 px | Under 1,280 px | JPG, PNG | 2 MB per image; 20 MB and 100 images per episode | Square 1080×1080 under 500 KB; vertical 1080×1920 under 700 KB; episode 160×151 |
| GlobalComix | No maximum; shown at up to 1,280 px wide | No maximum stated | JPG, PNG, PDF, ZIP, CBZ | None stated | Cover at least 1080×1670 |
| Taddy (Inkverse) | Flexible; converted to WebP | Flexible | Not stated | Not stated | Cover 1920×2880; thumbnail 600×600 |
| Own site (Toocheke) | Your choice | Your choice | JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF | Set by your web host | Your choice |

NamiComi and Lemoon do not publish their image limits. ComicFury stacks up to 25 images on one page since 24 September 2026, a feature its staff say "is meant primarily for scroll-style comics" (ComicFury forum).
How do I slice a long webtoon canvas for upload?
Clip Studio Paint slices a long canvas with File > Export webtoon: set the output width (800 for Canvas) and "Divide vertically" every 1,280 pixels, and it writes numbered JPG or PNG files in reading order (Clip Studio Paint manual, accessed 16 October 2026). The last slice is shorter when the height does not divide evenly, which the platforms accept.
Which webtoon platforms pay creators, and when?
NamiComi, GlobalComix and Lemoon pay from a series' first paying reader; WEBTOON Canvas pays only after a series passes its thresholds.
The ladders differ:
| Platform | What pays | Creator share | When it starts | Payout minimum |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WEBTOON Canvas | Super Likes (reader tips) | 70% | 500 total likes, creator 18+ | US$25 (PayPal) or US$100 (Patreon) |
| WEBTOON Canvas | Viewer ads | 50% | Over 1,000 subscribers and over 40,000 monthly page views | Same |
| WEBTOON Canvas | Reward ads | 50% | Over 100,000 monthly page views | Same |
| NamiComi | Coin-unlocked chapters | 85% | First unlock | Not published |
| GlobalComix | Reader subscription by pages read; paywalled chapters | 65% (70% on Pro) | First reader | US$30 |
| Lemoon | Paid episodes the creator chooses | 70% | Once the series has 5 episodes | Not published |

Canvas has no paid chapters; Fast Pass and coins are for WEBTOON Originals only. The route from Canvas to Originals runs through contests: in WEBTOON's 2025 Webcomic Legends contest, with more than US$1 million in prizes and nearly 4,000 entries, the grand-prize winner joined Originals (WEBTOON press release, 18 September 2025). We found no Canvas contest announced for 2026.
What are the best WEBTOON Canvas alternatives?
The main WEBTOON Canvas alternatives are GlobalComix and NamiComi for earning from the start, Lemoon for paid episodes in a webtoon app, ComicFury for a free home without an algorithm, and a self-hosted Toocheke site for full control.
Each answers one of the reasons creators give for leaving Canvas:
- No income below the thresholds. A Canvas series earns nothing until 500 likes, and no ad money until 1,000 subscribers and 40,000 monthly views. GlobalComix and NamiComi pay from the first reader.
- No paid chapters. NamiComi, GlobalComix and Lemoon let the creator charge for chapters; Canvas does not.
- Visibility. After a 2026 app update, WEBTOON admitted that some readers saw "an uneven mix of CANVAS and Originals" in its "Readers Also Like" recommendations and said it was "already addressing it" (WEBTOON notice, 15 May 2026). Creators reported that Canvas discovery "tanked" (K-Comics Beat, 21 May 2026).
- Content rules. Commentators describe the alternatives as "more flexible when it comes to sensitive content" (K-Comics Beat, 26 May 2026).
Other names in 2026 lists are TheDuck, which supports vertical comics, the site builders Comix Cleric and Webcomic.app, and Inkverse, a reading app fed by Taddy (K-Comics Beat, 30 September 2026). Manta, Lezhin and Tappytoon also come up in reader threads, but they publish licensed series only and take no open uploads.
WEBTOON's 2026 changes answer some of these complaints: a Creator Dashboard, ad sharing in all seven Canvas languages, follow buttons on creator profiles, and a keyword test that lets creators tag a series with up to 15 keywords (WEBTOON notice, 5 October 2026).
Most creators do not choose one: they keep Canvas for its audience and mirror the series on a platform that pays from the start, or on their own site.
Can I publish my webtoon in other languages?
Yes. WEBTOON Canvas has published in seven languages since March 2026 (English, Spanish, French, Indonesian, Thai, traditional Chinese and German), with ad sharing in all of them and an opt-in AI translation beta for eligible English-language Canvas creators (WEBTOON press release, 26 March 2026). Portuguese, Japanese and Korean are not among them.
- Any language: NamiComi accepts series in any language, and GlobalComix publishes in many.
- Japan: LINE Manga Indies is open to amateur creators and accepts vertical webtoons; its 2026 student contest took webtoon entries until 15 October 2026 (Inside Games, 30 July 2026).
- Indonesia: CIAYO Comics, once a local open platform, closed on 30 July 2020; Canvas now publishes in Indonesian.
- Portuguese: we found no open vertical platform for Portuguese-language webtoons beyond the multilingual hosts above.
How do I launch a webtoon so readers subscribe?
Launch with three episodes. WEBTOON's checklist recommends it because the subscribe prompt appears after a reader has read three episodes, and it advises against text on thumbnails (WEBTOON "Before You Publish" checklist).
Then keep to a schedule you can hold, and give readers one link that works wherever the series lives, so a reader who finds you on one platform can follow you on another.
What this means on AnimeHunt
AnimeHunt is a free anime and manga discovery directory and tracker that lists independent series next to studio titles. On AnimeHunt, webtoons are their own medium next to anime and manga, with 4,489 webtoons listed today, most of them licensed manhwa and manhua. A listing puts your webtoon in the same search, genre pages and recommendations as those titles, whether it is hosted on WEBTOON Canvas, GlobalComix, NamiComi, Lemoon, ComicFury or your own site.
Readers rate it and track it in their lists, and the link points to wherever you publish; when you add a mirror or move, you change the link and keep the page. AniList and MyAnimeList do not list self-published webtoons, so for many Canvas series this is the only tracker page they can have.
