Use AnimeHunt inside your AI assistant
You can ask ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant things like “find me a short anime like Mushishi” and have it answer with real results from AnimeHunt, including where to watch. It takes about two minutes and no technical knowledge.
What this is, in plain words
AI assistants can be given “tools”: small plug-ins that let them look things up in a live source instead of guessing from memory. AnimeHunt offers such a tool. The standard it uses is called MCP, which you only need to know because that is the word you will see in the settings screens. The address to add is:
https://animehunt.co/api/mcpNothing is installed on your computer. The assistant simply asks our site questions on your behalf. We never see your chat, only the search the assistant sends (for example “romance anime from 2024”).
Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app)
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose “Add custom connector”.
- Name it “AnimeHunt” and paste
https://animehunt.co/api/mcpas the URL. No login or key is needed. - Start a new chat and ask for recommendations. Claude shows a small notice the first time it uses the tool.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings, then Connectors (on some plans this is under “Apps & Connectors”).
- Turn on developer mode if the “Create” button is missing, then pick “Create”.
- Name: AnimeHunt. MCP server URL:
https://animehunt.co/api/mcp. Authentication: none. - In a new chat, enable the connector from the tools menu and ask away.
Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code and other developer tools
These read a small config file. Add an entry like this to the MCP settings of the tool:
{
"mcpServers": {
"animehunt": { "url": "https://animehunt.co/api/mcp" }
}
}Things to try
- “I loved Frieren and Mushishi. What should I watch next?”
- “What anime is on Netflix right now that is actually good?”
- “Which episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen are airing this week?”
- “Find indie webtoons about cooking.”
- “Is Attack on Titan on Crunchyroll or Hulu?”
Good to know
- The tool is free and public. It is rate limited, so a busy assistant may be asked to slow down for a minute.
- Results link to pages on AnimeHunt. Some “where to buy” links are affiliate links; the assistant is told to say so.
- The catalog never contains explicit (18+) content.
- Creators can ask their assistant to “list my series on AnimeHunt”; it will explain the steps from the creator page.
- Technical details, the HTTP version of the tools and the skill files are on the data & API page.
